Thanks rena, glad to see you here, I’m slowly turning Substack into Arsenal fans 😉

Always preferred European football to American football. Now I have a team 🙂

Thanks for this excellent piece of sanity Jonathan. It’s remarkable how the Arsenal narrative is bouncing between hope and despair right now eh? Beyond the frustration my sense is there’s still a lot of football to play so keep the faith Gunners.

Thank you Ben! And I totally agree, the insane oscillation between hope and despair is mental. A few weeks ago the narrative was that City had won it already , they'll never drop points and it's all over...then, some weird shift in reality and City can't seem to win a game, and now it's Liverpool who are impossible to catch and will never drop a point 🙄

There is so much football left, and we've not seen the best of us yet. A few flashes - the first half against Sporting - but there's been no fat lady singing yet, not by a long shot, which might be a good idea for us to try, a long shot ;)

Absolutely spot on! We ain’t done yet and a lot can happen in a very short space of time. We have a lot of games between now and early Jan so let’s see what is going on then eh? I seem to recall we were 8 points clear a couple of years ago with all and sundry declaring it was ours to lose. Well, as we know, a lot can change over a few months. That’s football. I’ve seen more and more doomsayers declaring we need to get rid of Arteta and half the team. I mean-wtf? Sometimes I do think (certain sections) of our supporters are absurd. Infected by the commoditisation of life and an instant gratification culture. Just glad saner heads like ours are still out there.

That turning on Arteta is totally unbelievable. There is such a sense of entitlement in some (that you rightly call "commoditisation of life and an instant gratification culture") It's like the digital influence on our expectations is all about programming success, instead of accepting we live in a messy world (thank goodness). Besides, isn't it nicer to enjoy games as they come as well as yearning for ultimate victory? Yep, it is :)
