“By the way, while I’m on this Pseudo-Psychiatrist mode, the other day whilst wasting time watching some Bench-Cam nonsense I got to thinking about Arteta’s role on the sideline, and it occurred to me that the manager is a bit like a Superego. He’s a kind of external critical consciousness for the team constantly reminding them of the (fugging) social standards required to make it in the big bad world. His windmilling arms semaphore a right and wrong signal to players when they’re transgressing the Team Morality and breaking the Rules Of Society (The team).”
This is the best thing I’ve ever read. 😂 At half, I said to my husband “I wonder what Arteta is saying(screaming?) to them in the locker room right now?” He does play such a crucial role in their performances, I believe. Also I agree about subbing defenders, but I had never thought about it that way (psychologically) and I think you’re onto something there.
Yep, I liked that one too :) There is a strange similarity though right? He he. Thanks so much for reading and commenting Erica.
If you're interested in other fiction writing that deals with the human condition in all it's facets you could try my other substack. There's no football on that one but there's quite a variety of stuff posted over the last two years, which you might like it :)
